The Speed Weekend “ice” land speed racing competition as an official VW Challenge event.

Feb 14

The 36hp & Big Block VW Challenge is glad to welcome the Speed Weekend “ice” land speed racing competition as an official VW Challenge event. The top speed of every Volkswagen powered or bodied ice racer will be recorded in the Volkswagen land speed racing history, which goes back to the earliest years of Volkswagen production and the Type 64 Berlin to Rome racing project. Top speed’s of Volkswagens from all the land speed racing venues around the world, including the Bonneville Salt Flats in the USA, Speedweek at Lake Gairdner and the Snowy Mountain 1000 in Australia, Elvington in York, England, and various half mile or longer events throughout the United States
are documented in the Volkswagen land speed history. Should one of your “ice” racing top speeds exceed the fastest known land speed for the type of Volkswagen you are racing, once confirmed, that speed will become the new record for it’s category. A list of current top speeds for each category can be requested at the email address below.

If you are racing or have raced a water or air cooled Volkswagen at Speed Weekend this year or in the past, please contact Burly Burlile at [email protected] to share your VW racing photos and history so we can add your car to the history photo files. Please also request adding your name to the free VW Challenge E-newsletter roster to keep you on top of all the happenings in the Volkswagen land speed racing world, now including Sweden. You can also find Volkswagen specific land speed discussions and history by friend requesting on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/36hpvw.challenge .

It was great learning to Speed Weekend has been taking place and seeing the names of VW racers who plan on competing at the upcoming competition. We are looking forward to hearing about your success.

Until then, may the Speed be with you………………..
